Androgenetic alopecia, also known as male pattern baldness, is the most common cause of hair loss in men. It affects up to 70% of men to varying degrees of severity, and the first symptoms can appear after the age of 20. Can this process be stopped? What methods are the most effective? When is it worth seeing a specialist? We answer all your questions!

Causes and mechanism of androgenetic alopecia

Unlike Alopecia Areata, Androgenetic Alopecia is a gradual, patterned hair loss condition caused by genetic and hormonal factors (DHT sensitivity) rather than an autoimmune attack. Androgenetic alopecia is genetically determined and related to the action of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) – a derivative of testosterone. This hormone causes gradual miniaturization of hair follicles, which leads to their weakening, shortening of the growth phase and, as a result, hair loss.

This process most often begins with the receding hairline at the temples and then covers the top of the head (tonsure). Over time, it can lead to complete baldness in these areas, leaving only a strip of hair on the sides and back of the head.

Can androgenetic alopecia be reversed?

Androgenetic alopecia is a progressive process, but its pace and severity vary from person to person. In advanced stages, hair restoration is difficult, but early intervention can significantly slow down hair loss and stimulate new hair growth.

There are currently several effective treatments available:

Pharmacological treatment

Supplementary treatment

Trichological treatments

Scalp mesotherapy – injections of vitamin cocktails, peptides and growth factors to support the regeneration of hair follicles.

Platelet–rich plasma therapy (PRP) – uses growth factors from the patient’s own blood to regenerate the scalp and stimulate hair growth.

Low–level laser therapy (LLLT) – stimulates hair follicles and improves microcirculation.

Hair transplant – For people with advanced androgenetic alopecia, the only effective method may be a hair transplant.

FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) – A modern technique which allows for a natural effect and lasting results

A Holistic Approach – Holistic therapy includes not only drug treatment or procedures, but also lifestyle changes and proper scalp care.

What is worth considering?

A diet rich in nutrients – zinc, biotin, iron and omega–3 fatty acids support healthy hair.

Stress reduction – chronic stress increases cortisol levels, which can exacerbate balding. Relaxation techniques, meditation and physical activity help reduce it.

Scalp care – appropriate shampoos and lotions with caffeine, niacinamide and plant extracts can support the condition of hair follicles.

When to see a trichologist?

If you notice:

Increased hair loss (more than 100 hairs per day)

Receding hairline or thinning on the top of the head

Itching, flaking or irritation of the scalp

Don’t delay! The sooner you start treatment, the greater the chance of stopping the balding process. The trichologist will conduct a detailed diagnosis and choose an individual treatment plan.

Androgenetic alopecia in men

Androgenetic alopecia in men is a problem that can be effectively controlled if treatment is implemented early enough. A combination of pharmacological treatment, trichological procedures and a holistic approach allows you to stop the hair loss process and improve its condition. If you notice the first symptoms of baldness, do not wait – consult a specialist and take care of the health of your hair!

The post Androgenetic alopecia in men – causes, course and effective methods of treatment first appeared on Skin and Hair Beauty Clinic.

What is Alopecia Areata? Exploring the Autoimmune Connection

Alopecia areata is a condition that affects many people around the world. In addition to the characteristic patches on the scalp (round or oval areas without hair and hair follicles), this disease can lead to complete hair loss, which affects the well-being and self-confidence of patients. Therefore, understanding the causes and available treatments is crucial for those struggling with this problem.

Unravelling the Causes: Genetics, Environment, and Triggers

In the case of alopecia areata, the immune system plays a key role, which incorrectly attacks the hair follicles. Although the exact causes of this condition remain unknown, research suggests that genetic and environmental factors may have a significant impact on the development of the disease. In addition, stress and viral infections can act as triggers, making people with a history of autoimmune diseases in the family more likely to develop alopecia area.

Effective Treatments for Alopecia Areata: A Combined Approach

Treatment of alopecia areata includes a variety of approaches, from local therapies to systemic treatment. However, we can get the best results if we combine activities – from the inside and outside at the same time. Many people use corticosteroids to help reduce inflammation and support hair growth, supplementation and a proper diet – it can also support hair health and support the immune system.

Have you noticed that your hair is in worse condition after the summer? Why do we always lose hair in the fall? What causes autumn hair loss and how to deal with it? Find out the causes of hair weakening in autumn and ways to thicken it!

As an experienced trichologist who has been working in the industry for many years, I would like to tell you about hair loss, especially in autumn and winter. Many people are afraid of this time of the year because they notice excessive hair loss, which can cause anxiety.

CAUSES OF HAIR LOSS IN AUTUMN

The natural cycle of our body

Autumn hair loss is mainly due to the transformation of testosterone in the body and vitamin and mineral deficiencies. The solution to these problems is comprehensive action on several levels, such as following a proper diet, supplementation and appropriate cosmetics intended for the scalp.

In summer, when we have greater access to sunlight, our body produces larger amounts of estrogen, a female hormone that is responsible for better nutrition and faster hair growth. Unfortunately, in autumn, the concentration of this hormone in the body automatically decreases, there is less sun, the days are shorter, colder and darker. The body begins to produce less estrogen, which affects the deterioration of our hair and excessive hair loss.

Worse diet devoid of vitamins and minerals

Providing the scalp with the appropriate number of nutrients allows new hair to grow and hair follicles and bulbs to strengthen. Make sure your diet includes products rich in vitamins A, B7, C, E and minerals: zinc, iron, copper, which support their growth, hydration and elasticity.

Additionally, in autumn we are exposed to various types of infections, so we must take care of our immune system. To achieve this, start supplementing with Omega acids and add them to your daily diet. Reach for olive oil, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, olives, avocado or fatty fish.

A diet rich in vegetables, fruits, whole-grain carbohydrates, healthy protein and a bit of fat is what your hair needs to be strong, healthy and beautiful not only in autumn, but also all year round.

Conscious care

Paradoxically, hair falls out in the autumn because of the mistakes we made in the summer. If you have over-dried it, not taken care of thermal protection, exposed your hair to harmful UV rays or had insufficient protection against salty sea or chlorinated water – your hair will be weakened, dry and devoid of shine. It will start to crumble, split and eventually fall out. The effects of summer neglect will only be visible in the autumn. If we add stress, hairdressing treatments, and mineral deficiencies – the effects can be disastrous.

Hydration, regeneration, and conscious care

Let’s start with choosing the right hair care products. It is important that the ones we choose provide our hair with the nutrients necessary to keep it healthy. Shampoos, conditioners and masks that are designed to nourish and moisturize the hair and scalp are the key to the health and beauty of our strands. It is also a good idea to brush your hair with a special brush that does not tug or damage the hair bulbs, but helps in detangling and caring for the hair.

However, when you notice that even after implementing a healthy diet and using appropriate cosmetics, your hair is still falling out, it is worth consulting a trichologist who will professionally and holistically deal with your health problems.

Basic trichological tests include assessment of the hair shaft, scalp analysis, interpretation of test results, home therapy recommendations, in-clinic therapy and selection of supplements.

Therefore, it is worth considering what changes can be made both in daily care and in changing eating habits or lifestyle. Taking care of our hair at the external and internal level not only affects its health and strength, but also our self-confidence and well-being.

Let’s remember that hair is not only our showcase, but also affects our mood and reflects our health. That’s why it’s worth taking care of it every day.

The post Why does hair fall out in Autumn? first appeared on Skin and Hair Beauty Clinic.
