Have you noticed that your hair is in worse condition after the summer? Why do we always lose hair in the fall? What causes autumn hair loss and how to deal with it? Find out the causes of hair weakening in autumn and ways to thicken it!
As an experienced trichologist who has been working in the industry for many years, I would like to tell you about hair loss, especially in autumn and winter. Many people are afraid of this time of the year because they notice excessive hair loss, which can cause anxiety.
CAUSES OF HAIR LOSS IN AUTUMN
The natural cycle of our body
Autumn hair loss is mainly due to the transformation of testosterone in the body and vitamin and mineral deficiencies. The solution to these problems is comprehensive action on several levels, such as following a proper diet, supplementation and appropriate cosmetics intended for the scalp.
In summer, when we have greater access to sunlight, our body produces larger amounts of estrogen, a female hormone that is responsible for better nutrition and faster hair growth. Unfortunately, in autumn, the concentration of this hormone in the body automatically decreases, there is less sun, the days are shorter, colder and darker. The body begins to produce less estrogen, which affects the deterioration of our hair and excessive hair loss.
Worse diet devoid of vitamins and minerals
Providing the scalp with the appropriate number of nutrients allows new hair to grow and hair follicles and bulbs to strengthen. Make sure your diet includes products rich in vitamins A, B7, C, E and minerals: zinc, iron, copper, which support their growth, hydration and elasticity.
Additionally, in autumn we are exposed to various types of infections, so we must take care of our immune system. To achieve this, start supplementing with Omega acids and add them to your daily diet. Reach for olive oil, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, olives, avocado or fatty fish.
A diet rich in vegetables, fruits, whole-grain carbohydrates, healthy protein and a bit of fat is what your hair needs to be strong, healthy and beautiful not only in autumn, but also all year round.
Conscious care
Paradoxically, hair falls out in the autumn because of the mistakes we made in the summer. If you have over-dried it, not taken care of thermal protection, exposed your hair to harmful UV rays or had insufficient protection against salty sea or chlorinated water – your hair will be weakened, dry and devoid of shine. It will start to crumble, split and eventually fall out. The effects of summer neglect will only be visible in the autumn. If we add stress, hairdressing treatments, and mineral deficiencies – the effects can be disastrous.
Hydration, regeneration, and conscious care
Let’s start with choosing the right hair care products. It is important that the ones we choose provide our hair with the nutrients necessary to keep it healthy. Shampoos, conditioners and masks that are designed to nourish and moisturize the hair and scalp are the key to the health and beauty of our strands. It is also a good idea to brush your hair with a special brush that does not tug or damage the hair bulbs, but helps in detangling and caring for the hair.
However, when you notice that even after implementing a healthy diet and using appropriate cosmetics, your hair is still falling out, it is worth consulting a trichologist who will professionally and holistically deal with your health problems.
Basic trichological tests include assessment of the hair shaft, scalp analysis, interpretation of test results, home therapy recommendations, in-clinic therapy and selection of supplements.
Therefore, it is worth considering what changes can be made both in daily care and in changing eating habits or lifestyle. Taking care of our hair at the external and internal level not only affects its health and strength, but also our self-confidence and well-being.
Let’s remember that hair is not only our showcase, but also affects our mood and reflects our health. That’s why it’s worth taking care of it every day.
